What is halogen lighting

Halogen lighting, similar to traditional incandescent bulbs, contains a filament that emits light when heated. Unlike incandescent bulbs, however, halogen contains a gas mixture of iodine and bromine, which causes the filament to become even hotter, resulting in an improvement in the luminous intensity efficiency by approximately 20% compared to incandescent bulbs. The addition of this gas mixture results in higher efficiency and a longer lifespan.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF HALOGEN LIGHTING

Advantages:

  • Halogen lighting is reasonably heat-resistant.
  • Provides good color rendering.
  • It is more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs.
  • Relatively affordable to purchase.

Disadvantages:

  • Halogen lamps have a limited lifespan.
  • Are inefficient in energy usage.
  • Get very hot.
  • Are sensitive to high voltage.

Since 2018, the production of halogen lighting has been banned in line with more energy-efficient alternatives available, such as LED lighting.

Halogen vs led lighting

In comparison to LED lighting, halogen lighting has some advantages and disadvantages. Although LED lighting is often more expensive to purchase, it compensates for this with significantly more efficient energy consumption and a lifespan that is 35 times longer than that of halogen lighting. LED lighting comes in various shapes and light colors, has better luminosity, and is more resistant to peak voltage than halogen lamps.
