LED rear light for trailer

When driving with a trailer on the road, it is important that both vehicles (car and trailer) stand out well. If this is not the case, other road users can easily overlook you and the trailer. Road safety will deteriorate, resulting in more accidents. This is one of the reasons why you will need lights on a trailer. By using LED rear lights on a trailer, the trailer will stand out well and other road users will be able to anticipate upcoming situations better.

What should you pay attention to when buying rear lights on trailers?

There are a few things you should pay attention to when buying new LED lighting for your trailer. Firstly, the dimensions are important. Make sure that when you replace a bulb, you get another one with the same dimensions. This prevents a rear light from being too big or too small for your trailer. It is also important to look at which side you need. Tail lights can be specifically intended for the left and right side.

Secondly, it is important to pay attention to the connections when you buy LED rear lights for trailers. This can be done in different ways, namely through a 7-pin plug, a 13-pin plug and a bayonet connection. If you have a standard trailer where you only want to provide basic lighting, we recommend using a 7-pin plug. If the rear light has to provide more lighting than the basic lighting, we recommend a 13-pole plug. So decide for yourself which type of lighting you want to carry and which you do not.

Thirdly, it is important to look at the voltage of the rear light. Trailer lights need 12 volts to burn. 24v is too much voltage and the lights may start to blink or not work.

Finally, it is important to check whether the lights comply with the correct certificates. LED lights must have a CE mark. If this is not the case, you may be held liable in the event of an accident because of the use of blinding lighting. CE marking prevents this. All TRALERT® lighting carries a CE mark.

My trailer lighting does not work. What can I do?

Even during normal use of the trailer, lighting failure can occur for one reason or another. In order to get your trailer back on the road as soon as possible, we hereby give you some advice on how to detect and rectify the fault as soon as possible.

If your trailer lighting does not work anymore, first check if it is only one light or if several lights are out of order. If only one light is not working, start looking at the light itself. If a few lights don't work, check the plugs. It is best to use a 12V voltage tester or multimeter. If you do not have one, it is a lot more difficult to solve lighting problems.

One light on the trailer does not work

1 - First check the affected bulbs and replace them with new ones if necessary. Is the wire of the old bulb still in good condition? Does the bulb light up when you remove it? Then clean the contacts.

2 - Check the corresponding poles on the car outlet for voltage. If necessary, clean the contacts and check again.

3 - Check that the wires in the plug are properly connected and clean the plug contacts. If necessary, bend the four parts of the contacts slightly outwards.

4 - Check that no voltage is present at the lamp connection and check that the earth is not interrupted. If necessary, repair the connecting cable.

If the problem persists, please contact your LED specialist.

Several lights on the trailer are not illuminated

1 - If several lights do not illuminate, check whether there is voltage at the corresponding pole on the vehicle socket. If necessary, clean the contacts and check again.

2 - Check whether the connecting wire in the plug is properly connected and clean the plug contacts. If necessary, bend the four parts of the contact slightly outwards.

3 - Check the cable from the drawbar to the rear of the trailer for damage or breaks. Also check for any old repairs.

If the problem is not solved after this, it is best to contact your LED specialist.

Different types of trailer rear light

TRALERT® offers a wide range of LED trailer lights. There are individual lights (such as the hamburger light) but also combination rear lights available. Combination lights are lights that are equipped with various functionalities such as rear light, brake light, blinkers, fog light and reversing light. For each series, rear lights can be equipped with integrated triangular reflectors, or rectangular reflectors for towing vehicles. We also offer various models with the striking Lavaflow look, also known as the neon look. As an option, the combination rear light can be fitted with licence plate lighting at the bottom or on the left or right side of the combination LED rear light.

Which rear light is suitable for my trailer?

Choosing a suitable LED rear light for a trailer can sometimes be difficult. There are different types of trailers and different bulbs. When you buy an LED rear light for your trailer, make sure that your vehicle is equipped with a reflector triangle. This can be mounted on the vehicle as well as in the light. At TRALERT® we have various LED lighting products that are equipped with an integrated triangular reflector as standard. It is also possible to order the triangular reflector separately. The reflector is used to warn other road users that the vehicle is a towing vehicle. In this situation, the vehicle is towed by a car or truck. If you are looking for LED rear lights for your truck, we recommend you visit the LED rear lights for trucks page.
