TRALERT® supplies LED rear lights for trucks, semi-trailers, commercial vehicles and other professional equipment. Here you’ll find rear lights in 12V, 24V and 12–24V multi-voltage versions, featuring all standard light functions, in a variety of shapes and with different connection types, for replacement and for vehicle construction. Are you looking for rear lights for a trailer? Then take a look at our rear lights for trailers.
Rear lights for trucks
With trucks, you often replace a rear light within an existing installation. You should therefore check the fitting dimensions, mounting points and connections to ensure the new light fits the vehicle without any modifications. In our range, you’ll find rear lights designed for intensive use: vibrations, moisture, de-icing salt, dirt and regular cleaning. Models with an IP69K rating can withstand cleaning with hot water under high pressure. Take a look at our other truck lighting too.
Rear lights for semi-trailers and commercial vehicles
For semi-trailers, commercial vehicles and work vehicles, the focus is on reliable light functions and easy connection. Commonly used connections include an open wire end, a 5- or 8-pin bayonet connector and a 7-pin AMP-connector. A suitable connection prevents unnecessary modifications to the cabling. Tips for choosing rear lights
Start with the light functions you need. An LED rear light unit can combine a rear light, brake light, indicator, rear fog light, reversing light and licence plate light. Multiple functions in a single unit reduce the number of individual lights and cable entries.
Next, consider the shape and mounting dimensions. Round rear lights, also known as ‘hamburger lights’, are commonly found on trucks, semi-trailers and work vehicles. Square and rectangular units often combine multiple light functions in a compact housing, whilst oval, triangular and slimline versions are also available. Before purchasing, always measure the height, width, mounting depth and the centre-to-centre distance of the mounting points.
Finally, determine the connection type, the vehicle voltage and the required approval. You can read more about these aspects below.
Rear lights with dynamic indicator light
Various series feature a dynamic indicator light, whereby the indicator lights up as a moving light bar. Take a look at our LED rear lights with dynamic indicator lights. You can read more about the difference between the various light functions in the article on the difference between brake lights and rear lights.
Rear lights: 12V, 24V and CAN-bus
Always check the vehicle voltage. Trucks and semi-trailers usually operate on 24V, whilst commercial vehicles and lighter vehicles often use 12V. A 12–24V rear light supports both voltages and simplifies mounting within a mixed fleet.
In modern vehicles, the low power consumption of LED lighting can trigger a fault warning. A CAN-bus-compatible solution or additional module may therefore be required. Please also take note of cable length and connector type. For complete installations, please also see our range of cabling.
What approvals and regulations apply?
LED rear lights for use on public roads must comply with the relevant approval requirements. UN R148 (ECE R148) covers various light signalling functions, including rear lights, brake lights, indicators, rear fog lights and reverse lights. UN R150 applies to retro-reflective devices. You can find further background information in our explanation of ECE regulations.
The mounting to the vehicle must also be correct. UN R48 sets out requirements regarding, amongst other things, mounting height, distance, visibility and circuit configuration. An approved rear light therefore does not automatically mean that any mounting is permitted. Specific requirements apply to the positioning and circuit configuration of rear fog lights; read more about this in the regulations for rear fog lights.
You may also come across a ‘D’ marking on certain configurations. Additional requirements apply to vehicles transporting dangerous goods. Read more about ADR and vehicle lighting.
