reflectors-amber-red-white

Reflectors from TRALERT®

In addition to LED lighting, TRALERT® also specialises in the supply of high quality reflectors. These are available in various colours. These include white, red and orange reflectors. The orange coloured reflector is also described with the colour amber. TRALERT® retroreflectors are easy to fit to various vehicles. A reflector does not itself emit light, but it does increase visibility on the road. In addition, a reflector gives an indication of the length and width of your vehicle. This improves communication and safety for your fellow drivers. Reflectors can be mounted on vehicles such as a trailer or car but can also be used to indicate things such as a driveway or pole.

Retroreflectors offer an extra piece of safety. When light shines on a reflector, the reflector bounces the light back. The result of this is that the reflector, and the vehicle to which it is attached, is clearly visible. As well as being fitted to vehicles, a reflector is also suitable for indicating things. Think about bollards at an entrance.

Retroreflectors ensure that you are more visible to your fellow road users. Besides your own safety, the use of a reflector can also save you a fine. On some vehicles, a reflector is compulsory. All rules that apply to reflectors for the trailer and car will be discussed later.

Different reflector colours

TRALERT® offers a wide range of colours. For the retroreflectors this means that besides different shapes and sizes, there are also different colours available. Because of the different colours everyone can make his or her choice. Within the range, TRALERT® has three different colours of reflectors: red, white and orange. The different colours are obligatory for certain spots on your vehicle. Thus a reflector at the rear of your vehicle must be red, at the side orange (amber) and at the front white.

Red reflectors

The red reflectors are the most common. You may recognise them from the posts along the road in the verge. Besides the round and rectangular shape, the red reflectors are also available as a triangle.

White reflectors

Just like the red reflectors, the white reflectors can also be recognised by the posts alongside the road in the verge. The white reflectors are visible at the posts on the left-hand side of the road. The white reflectors are for the front of your vehicle.

Orange (amber) reflectors

The colour orange is often called amber, these colours are simply the same. Amber comes from the English language and is used to indicate the colour. Amber has the well-known orange colour. Amber is nothing more than technical language for the colour orange.

Shapes of retroreflectors

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, TRALERT® retroreflectors are also available in different shapes. In some places on your vehicle a certain shape is mandatory. For example, the triangular shape is mandatory on the rear of a trailer.

Round reflector

TRALERT® has several round reflectors in stock. This shape is available in all the colours mentioned above. Each colour has two variants that can be attached in two ways. More information about this will follow later.

Rectangular reflector

Besides the round shape, rectangular retro-reflectors are also available. The rectangular reflectors are, just like the round ones, available in all three colours. They are also available in different variants.

Triangular reflector

The triangular reflectors are not available in all colours. They are only available in red.

Fixing a reflector to your vehicle

TRALERT® reflectors can be attached in two ways. Except the triangular ones, which can only be mounted in one way. All other shapes and colours in any combination are available in two different fastening options.

Adhesive strip

The first way of fixing is by means of an adhesive strip. As the name suggests, these reflectors must be stuck on the vehicle. On the back of the reflectors is a 3m adhesive strip attached. With the adhesive strip, you literally stick the reflector onto the vehicle. The triangular reflectors are not available with an adhesive strip.

Screw mounting

The other way of fixing is by means of screws. The reflectors have holes in them, so you can attach them by using two screws. The triangular reflectors are only available with screw mounting.

Format

All reflectors in the TRALERT® product range have a standard size. The standard size of round reflectors with an adhesive strip is ø60 x 5.5mm. The standard size of round reflectors with screw mounting is ø78 x 5.5mm.  All rectangular reflectors, regardless of the method of fixing, are 90 x 40mm. The triangular reflectors are 158 x 158mm.

Vehicles

A TRALERT® reflector can be used for various vehicles. Each vehicle has its own laws and rules when it comes to reflectors. For some vehicles a reflector is mandatory, so pay attention to this.

Reflectors trailer

To comply with the regulations, a trailer up to the maximum permitted mass of 750 kg must have the following reflectors. The required reflectors for a trailer are as follows. Firstly, the trailer must be fitted with two triangular red retro-reflectors at the rear of the vehicle. Furthermore, the trailer must be equipped with two white retro-reflectors at the front. In addition to the front and rear of the vehicle, the trailer must be equipped with non-triangular amber retro-reflectors on each side of the vehicle. In short, your trailer must be equipped with both red, white and amber reflectors.

Reflectors car

According to the MOT inspection requirements, a car must be equipped with various retroreflectors. When your car has no retroreflector it is rejected. A retroreflector on a car has the function of reflecting light. This makes the car more noticeable, for example, when the weather is bad. When a reflector on your car is broken or missing, it is wise to replace it.

Certificates

Of course, there are also rules and requirements for a reflector. Every reflector in the TRALERT® range is provided with the necessary certificates. So you don't have to worry about that.

Is a retroreflector the same as a normal reflector?

A retro reflector is nothing more than a reflector that ensures that the light is reflected in the same direction. This is extremely important in traffic. When a motorist shines light on a reflector, the light must of course be reflected back in the direction of the motorist. The reflectors that are used along the road on the posts in the verge or on the clothing of road workers are all retroreflectors.
