What are daytime running lights?
In short, daytime running lights are not 'regular' lights. Daytime running lights automatically come on when the car or truck is started. Since daytime running lights can also be integrated into lamps alongside vehicles, we now want to delve deeper into daytime running lights in LED bars and LED driving lights.
Did you know "Standlicht" is a Dutch term for "daytime running lights.
Standlicht is the lighting that can be activated in LED bars or LED driving lights and also emits a light signal even in 'daylight.' Therefore, it's essential to properly adjust the light signal for legal use on public roads and to prevent blinding others. Typically, white daytime running lights are used on public roads. However, a new trend is the reintroduction of the orange color, also known as 'Amber color.' Amber daytime running lights are practically never approved for use as standlicht. Whether the police enforce this strictly is not entirely clear. However, it may result in a vehicle not passing the MOT inspection if the daytime running lights are already installed as a standard configuration.
It is only legal to use daytime running lights on public roads if this lighting is equipped with an ECE-R7 certification. If your LED bar or LED driving light does not have this certificate (i.e., non-certified lamps), they should not be turned on on public roads.
Where can I find daytime running lights in LED driving lights?
Daytime running lights are integrated into driving lights in various ways. For example, in the TRALERT® Graveler series, daytime running lights are divided into four separate light sources. In contrast, the TRALERT® Infinity series has two LED strips at both ends of the driving light. However, the DL226, a new round LED car lamp driving light, has an LED strip that covers the entire width of the lamp. In other words, daytime running lights can be integrated into lighting in various shapes and sizes.
Where can I find daytime running lights in LED bars?
Just like with LED driving lights, daytime running lights can be integrated into an LED light bar in various ways. Manufacturers can place this LED strip both across the width or length of the LED bar. The specific location varies by LED bar. Some designs have the LED strip in the center of the lamp, while others incorporate this lighting strip into the curvature of the lens. There's no saying which approach is 'better' than the other. The preference for a particular LED bar design naturally varies by company or individual.
