ISO 1724

ISO 1724 - The standard behind the 7-PIN connector (12V).
ISO 1724 is the international standard for the 7-PIN connector, a standard 12V connection commonly found on older semi-trailers, bike carriers, luggage semi-trailers and boat semi-trailers. This standard describes PIN functions, wire colours and the physical connection between vehicle and semi-trailer.
The N connector only provides basic lighting, such as direction indicators, rear lights, brake lights and rear fog light. Due to its limited functionality, this connector is often replaced by the 13-PIN connector (ISO 11446) in newer applications.
Wiring diagram of 7-PIN connector according to ISO 1724
| PIN | Function | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Direction indicator left | Yellow |
| 2 | Rear fog light | Blue |
| 3 | Mass (for PIN 1 to 7) | White |
| 4 | Direction indicator right | Green |
| 5 | Rear/ licence plate light right | Brown |
| 6 | Brake lights | Red |
| 7 | Rear/ licence plate light left | Black |
Where do we come across ISO 1724 connectors?
These are mainly applied to the connectors on the somewhat older:
- 12V semi-trailers
- Boat semi-trailers
- Horse semi-trailers
For applications that require more functions, such as battery supply or reversing lights, ISO 11446 (13-PIN connector) is the recommended successor.
ISO 1724 and the future
Although ISO 1724 is still widely used in older vehicles and semi-trailers, the possibilities are limited. New vehicles are equipped with a 13-PIN Jaeger connection as standard. TRALERT® recommends choosing ISO 11446 for new installations, due to its waterproof connection and higher number of functions.
