ISO 1724 - The standard behind the 7-PIN connector (12V).
ISO 1724 is the international standard for the 7-PIN N-connector, a standard 12V connection commonly found on older trailers, bike racks, luggage trolleys and boat trailers. This standard describes the functions of the PINs, the wire colours and the physical connection between the vehicle and the trailer.
The N-connector is used exclusively for basic lighting, such as indicators, rear lights, brake lights and rear fog lights. Due to its limited functionality, this connector is often replaced by the 13-PIN connector (ISO 11446) in newer applications.

Where do we come across ISO 1724 connectors?
These are mainly applied to the connectors on the somewhat older:
- Trailers
- Boat semi-trailers
- Horse semi-trailers
For applications that require more functions, such as battery supply or reversing lights, ISO 11446 (13-PIN connector) is the recommended successor.
ISO 1724 and the future
Although ISO 1724 is still widely used in older vehicles and trailers, its capabilities are limited. New vehicles are fitted as standard with a 13-PIN Jaeger connection. TRALERT® recommends opting for ISO 11446 for new installations, due to its waterproof connection and greater range of functions.
