ADR certification

What is ADR certification?
ADR certification is required when transporting hazardous materials within Europe. ADR stands for 'Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route'. This is French for a European agreement relating to the international transport of dangerous goods by road. In addition to several people having to obtain ADR certificates, other items must also meet requirements. For example, the lighting must also have the correct ADR certification. TRALERT® has a wide range of ADR LED work lights.
How do you obtain an ADR certificate?
Everyone involved in the transport of dangerous goods must have obtained ADR certificates. So, for example, this does not just apply to the drivers of the vehicles transporting it. It also includes employers and managers. You can obtain the certificate by taking a course. The employer must also have the right certificates as they are obviously ultimately responsible. So make sure you have the right papers in place.
What is covered by hazardous goods?
Of course, it is important to know exactly what is considered a hazardous substance. Otherwise you will not know when ADR certification applies. In total, there are nine groups into which hazardous substances are divided:
- Explosive substances or objects
- Gases
- Flammable liquids
- Flammable solids
- Oxidising substances
- Toxic and infectious substances
- Radioactive substances
- Corrosive substances
- Various hazardous substances
The nine groups for ADR certification are supplemented by certain letters. It could happen that certain products fall into several groups. In these cases, the product is also given multiple letters. The additions are:
- A for choking
- C for corrosive
- F for flammable
- O for oxidising
- S for self-ignition
- T for toxic
- W for water reactive
It also indicates to what extent the product is dangerous. Roman numbers are used to make this clear. The numbers one, two and three (in Roman I, II and III) indicate the danger. The number one is very dangerous, the number three is less dangerous.
