7-PIN type N connector 24V

Contents

The 24 Volt 7-PIN connector N.

Definition

The 7-PIN connector N (24V) is a robust standard for basic lighting on towed vehicles in the 24V class. For example:

  • Trucks and semi-trailers
  • Agricultural vehicles such as tractors
  • Agricultural implements such as manure tanks and bale semi-trailers
  • Industrial trailers and flatbed trailers

This connector supplies power to indicator lights, brake lights, rear lights and fog lights. It is standardised in accordance with ISO 1185.

ISO 1185 standardisation

The 7-PIN N connector for 24V is specified in ISO 1185. Although the pin configuration is similar to that of ISO 1724 (12V), these connectors are not interchangeable due to differences in voltage and shape.

Applications: truck, agricultural vehicles and more

This connector is widely used in the world of:

  • Tractor-semi-trailer combinations
  • Trailed agricultural machinery
  • Mobile implementations (compressors, generators)
  • Exceptional transport

Adapter use and transition to 15-PIN connection

Many modern trailers use a 15-PIN connector (ISO 12098). In such cases, a temporary adapter may be used, but a full conversion is recommended.

LED lighting and CAN-bus interference

On 24V vehicles with a CAN-bus system, LED lighting can cause interference via this connector:

  • Flickering or non-functioning lighting
  • Fault messages on the dashboard
  • Lighting that stays on

Solution: use CAN-bus compatible lighting or a resistor solution.
