Vehicle lighting for harsh conditions

TRALERT® supplies professional vehicle lighting for challenging conditions involving vibrations, moisture, dust and temperature fluctuations. From construction machinery to agriculture and heavy haulage: our lighting is designed to continue to perform excellently under these conditions.

Heavy-duty lighting

Heavy-duty

Thermal and mechanical tests

For heavy-duty applications, light output alone is not enough. Construction, protection against environmental influences, electrical reliability and mounting are just as important in determining whether a product will stand the truck of time. The products listed below have been tested by TRALERT® against our heavy-duty criteria and validated for professional use in harsh conditions.

How can you recognise heavy-duty lighting?

Features Why it matters
Vibrations & shocks Crucial for vehicles and machinery subject to structural mechanical stress
IP rating Protection against dust, water and high-pressure washing
Temperature range Suitable for cold, hot and fluctuating temperatures
Housing & lens Mechanical protection and service life are key factors
Connector & cable Crucial in the presence of moisture, dirt and movement
Voltage range Must be compatible with 12V and/or 24V on-board electrical systems, even in the event of voltage fluctuations
ECE R10 / EMC Prevents interference in on-board electronics and the CAN-bus
Warranty period An indication of the manufacturer’s confidence in the product’s service life
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

Which lighting is suitable for off-road use and unpaved terrain?

The required IP value depends on the conditions. IP67 protects against dust and temporary immersion in water. Is a vehicle or machine regularly cleaned with a high-pressure washer? Then IP69K is a better choice. This rating offers protection against water under high pressure and at high temperatures. This is particularly relevant for construction machinery, agricultural machinery and other vehicles that are used and cleaned intensively.

What IP value do vehicle lights for harsh conditions require?

For use on unpaved terrain – such as mud, water or uneven surfaces – the combination of a high IP rating and a vibration-resistant design is crucial. Choose lighting with a sealed, robust housing that is resistant to dust and moisture, and which will not come loose or fail when subjected to constant shocks.

How can I recognise vibration-resistant vehicle lighting?

Don’t just look at the light output; pay particular attention to the build quality of the light. A robust housing, solid mounting points and well-protected internal components are essential when a light is constantly exposed to vibrations and shocks. You should also consult the technical product specifications or request the manufacturer’s truck data.

Which vehicle lighting is suitable for extreme temperatures?

Vehicle lighting for heavy-duty professional use must continue to function reliably at both low and high temperatures. You should therefore always check the specified temperature range in the product specifications. This is particularly important for vehicles and machinery used outdoors all year round.

What does ‘multi-voltage’ mean in the context of vehicle lighting?

Multivoltage means that a light is suitable for multiple on-board voltages. A light with a voltage range of, for example, 10–32V can be used on both 12V and 24V systems. This allows the same lighting to be used on, amongst other things, commercial vehicles, trucks, trailers and heavy machinery.

Proven
in practice

TRALERT® lighting is not only tested in the lab, but also proves its worth in practice under harsh conditions. For example, our lighting has been used during the Dakar Rally and several editions of the Noordkaap Challenge. These are conditions in which vehicles and lighting are subjected to intense vibrations, extreme temperature fluctuations and challenging terrain.
