Interior lighting and cargo space lighting: trends, tips & opportunities

Contents

The short answer

Interior and cargo space lighting is receiving increasing attention in commercial vehicle equipment. Whereas lighting used to be mainly functional and minimal, today it is an essential part of the overall concept.

The further development of LED technology has played a major role in this. Higher lumen output per watt, slimmer luminaires, better IP protection and smart control make it possible to shape a cargo space into a fully-fledged workplace.

In this article, we discuss:

  • How to achieve professional, shadow-free full-length light
  • Different types of LED strips with their unique features
  • Plug & play solutions for fast mounting

Beautiful full-length light with Click-&-Go LED strips

Strongly emerging are LED strips on rolls: flexible in length and sleek in result. These LED strips are developed for long cargo spaces where customisation is important. The roll has a standard length of five metres and can be shortened by five centimetres. As a result, the lighting fits exactly to the available space.

With a light output of 1,200 lumen per metre, the strip provides powerful and uniform basic lighting. The choice between 4,000K and 6,000K for the light colour allows the light image to be tailored to the specific application. Neutral white for comfortable work lights or cooler white for maximum visibility.

The silicone encapsulation with IP68 protection makes the strip suitable for damp cargo spaces or vehicles that are regularly cleaned. Aluminium profiles and click connectors also ensure a professional finish and a secure mounting. This prevents strips from coming loose or uneven light over time. View this series

Here, it is not just about lumen per metre, but about a light line that continues to perform consistently over its entire length.

The maximum length of LED strip you can loop through in a vehicle is 10 metres per power group for optimal operation.

LED strips with neon look for a special glow

Sometimes appearance is just as important as functionality. Think of premium service vehicles or high-profile trailers. That is why this neon-look light bar has been added to the range.

With 950 lumen per metre and a fully diffused light image, it creates a clean, even lighting along the entire length of the vehicle. This strip is also available in 12V or 24V, can be shortened by five centimetres and comes with IP68 protection. Available in white (5000K) or red for specific applications.

The result is a professionally finished interior that is technically and visually spot on. View the series

RGB LED lighting for maximum colour freedom

For those who want to go one step further, the RGB LED strips offer maximum flexibility. These are available in 12V and 24V versions, are IP68-rated and can be controlled via a control unit and remote control. This means the ambience isn’t fixed at the time of mounting. You can accentuate specific areas, adjust colours or tailor the interior to match a brand identity at a later stage. View the product

RGB lighting is increasingly used in mobile workshops to visually distinguish different work areas. Functional and distinctive without additional physical partitions.

Functional LED lights for perfect work light

TALERT® B-2000 slimline
A popular choice among our partners is the B-2000 serie slimline LED lights. These are only 17mm thick and therefore very easy to conceal. They have really been developed with practicality in mind. They give nice light and function stably in vehicles used intensively on a daily basis. That means reliable drivers, controlled electronics and an installation that does not cause surprises.

LED lighting commercial vehicles

This lighting is a popular choice for commercial vehicles, trailers and enclosed trailers where reliability is paramount. The series comprises nine variants in three lengths (380, 680 and 980 mm) and offers a choice of models without a switch, with a motion sensor or with touch control.

Thanks to its slimline design of just 17 mm, the strip integrates seamlessly into the interior. The aluminium housing and polycarbonate lens ensure a diffuse, even light image and robust IP67 protection. With 12–24V multi-voltage capability and ECE R10 certification, the B-2000 serie operates fault-free in modern vehicles.

A well thought-out solution for those who do not want to compromise on light quality and reliability.

These lights have a thickness of only 17 mm, allowing them to be nicely concealed in the interior.

Case study: Click & Go LED strips in an IVECO Daily

Here you can see the click-and-go LED strips in action in an IVECO Daily commercial vehicle. The strips are neatly concealed within an aluminium profile, which you can, of course, order as well.

Light colour: cold white or warm white in a work bus?

For professional applications, warm white (3000K) is rarely ideal. It gives a more pleasant atmosphere, but less sharpness.

In practice, the choice is usually made for:

  • 4000K (neutral white) - comfortable for long-term work
  • 5000K-6500K (clear/cold white) - maximum visibility

For assembly work and logistics in cargo spaces, 5000K or 6500K are usually used. For service vehicles in which work is carried out for long periods, 4000K is often more pleasant.

Cargo space lighting with motion sensor

LED lighting with integrated PIR sensor (motion sensor) is of interest for, among others:

  • Service vehicles
  • Parcel services
  • Refrigerated vehicles

An integrated total lighting solution

Instead of simply adding individual lights to a commercial vehicle, you can make a real difference with an integrated lighting solution that covers the entire vehicle. This starts with a well-thought-out lighting plan for the cargo space, but doesn’t stop at the interior. It also includes exterior lighting such as safety beacons, LED warning lights in the grill, additional work lights or reversing work lights on the commercial vehicle.

A professional total solution from TRALERT® takes into account:

  • A stable power supply
  • Correct load distribution over 12V or 24V systems
  • ECE R10-certified lighting to prevent interference
  • Smart control via door switches or sensors.

By coordinating interior and exterior lighting, you avoid voltage problems, interference and unwanted interference. The result is a reliable lighting system that turns your work bus or box truck into a safe, efficient and professionally equipped workplace, both inside and outside the vehicle.
